Focus Group Discussion – Process Safety

FGD 1 Process Safety

Indonesia currently does not have specific regulations on process safety, which are still embedded within broader occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations. Considering the high risks of industrial accidents, a comprehensive study is needed to develop regulations that fit the Indonesian context.

To address this issue, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held on Thursday, 6 February 2025 at the Smart Meeting Room, Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia. The discussion brought together representatives from academia, government institutions, industry players, as well as professional and industrial associations.

The FGD explored lessons learned from industrial accidents, reviewed best practices in process safety from the oil and gas sector, and discussed how these practices could be adapted for the chemical industry and beyond. It also examined existing oil and gas policies in preventing accidents, aiming to provide insights for developing broader process safety regulations in Indonesia.

Focus Group Discussion – CCS/CCU/CCUS in the Oil & Gas Sector

FGD 2 CCS/CCU/CCUS MIGAS

The oil and gas industry plays a vital role in Indonesia’s energy security and economy, but it is also a major source of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. To achieve the national Net Zero Emission (NZE) 2060 target, technologies such as Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU), and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) are seen as strategic solutions. These technologies not only reduce environmental impact through CO₂ capture, but also enable its utilization for value-added products and long-term storage to support Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) and Enhanced Gas Recovery (EGR).

Despite their potential, the implementation of CCS/CCU/CCUS in Indonesia faces challenges, including evolving regulations, high investment costs, limited infrastructure, and the need for cross-sector collaboration.

To address these issues, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held on Friday, 2 May 2025 at CIBIS Nine, Santan/Lawe-Lawe Room, PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia. The session brought together stakeholders from academia, industry associations, technology providers, legal experts, and government representatives.

The discussion highlighted recent milestones in CCS/CCUS policy and regulation in Indonesia, industry studies and challenges, the role of academia in preparing future talent, and potential enablers to accelerate implementation in the oil and gas sector.

Focus Group Discussion – National Cosmetic Industry Resilience

FGD 3 KETAHANAN KOSMETIK NASIONAL
LATAR BELAKANG

Indonesia’s cosmetics industry has been growing rapidly, fueled by increasing awareness of self-care, evolving beauty trends, and the influence of social media.

However, the sector still relies heavily on imported raw materials and supporting ingredients, which leads to higher production costs and dependence on foreign supply chains. While Indonesia has abundant natural resources such as spices, herbs, and essential oils, their use remains limited due to underdeveloped downstream industries and a lack of upstream and intermediate industries for cosmetic raw materials. This creates both challenges and opportunities to build a more independent and sustainable national cosmetics industry.

To explore these opportunities, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held on Tuesday, 5 August 2025 at Creativity Cove, PT Paragon Technology, Jakarta. The session brought together stakeholders from industry, professional associations, government institutions, and academia.

The discussion focused on strategies to optimize local resources, strengthen upstream and intermediate industries, and encourage better collaboration between research centers, universities, and industry players. The goal was to gather insights for building a more resilient and self-reliant cosmetics sector in Indonesia.
